Important Changes in the Latin Grammys 2025 You Need to Know

The Latin Recording Academy just announced some major updates for the Latin Grammys 2025, and several changes will shake things up. Here’s everything you need to know:

1. A New Award for Visual Media

The Latin Grammys will now include a new field dedicated to music for visual media. What does this mean? There will be two new categories:

  • Best Music for Visual Media: This award will recognize music that enhances the atmosphere and narrative of movies, series, video games, and other visual media through its creativity. The music must feature Latin rhythms or be composed by someone of Ibero-American descent.

  • Best Roots Song: This category will honor new, unpublished songs that represent the traditions and origins of various communities, especially those of Hispanic-American origin. Genres like tango, flamenco, or folklore will be highlighted here.

2. Some Category Names Are Changing

Some category names are getting an update, for example:

  • Pop: “Best Vocal Pop Album” will now be called “Best Contemporary Pop Album”.

  • Children’s Music: The “Best Latin Album for Children” will now be “Best Album for Children”.

  • Urban Music: “Best Urban Fusion/Performance” will now be “Best Urban Performance/Fusion.” Plus, for a song to be eligible, at least 60% of its elements must be urban (previously, it was 51%).

3. Eligibility Rule Changes

  • To be Composer of the Year, only 4 songs will now be required instead of the previous 6.

  • A specialized committee will now evaluate Producer of the Year in addition to the regular review by Academy members.

These changes will take effect immediately and apply to the November 2025 awards. The goal is to keep the Latin Grammys updated and in line with trends and changes in the music industry. Get ready for a new edition full of surprises!
